Case study · Pub & live-music venue — Wandiligong, VIC

A condemned pub, reborn — network, security and sound in one install.

A family rescued a condemned country pub and asked us to do the technology for its relaunch — network, security, distributed audio and a live-music stage, in one permanent install built so a cash-free venue never drops a payment.

A condemned pub, rebuilt

The family grew up nearby, and the pub had been condemned and slated for demolition — so they bought it to give it a new lease on life. They rebuilt it from the stumps up, added a 400-person outdoor dining area, a stage for live music, and room for kids to run around. We were asked to quote the technology for the revived venue.

Built around the one thing that can’t fail

The brief spanned several systems at once: network and Wi-Fi, security cameras, distributed audio indoors and out to the stage, and live-production capability. The make-or-break detail: every payment is taken online — no cash on site — so the connectivity simply can’t go down.

  • Two bonded Starlinks with failover. For a venue that takes every payment online, redundancy wasn’t a luxury — it was the point. If one link drops, the other carries it.
  • A proper backbone. A UniFi gateway with months of camera storage, IP-rated cameras throughout, and around 30 network ports for cameras, access points, the bar POS and the kitchen — all in a back-room server cabinet.

Sound designed for the room, not the spec sheet

Distributed in-ceiling speakers cover up to four zones. The deliberate choice was more speakers, not fewer: inside is sit-down dining, so spreading more speakers gives even sound — rather than a couple of big speakers that blast whoever’s sitting in front of them and leave hot spots. That’s the difference between a system that’s merely loud and one people actually enjoy sitting under.

Trust that compounds

Three years on, it’s still going strong — and the venue keeps coming back, every couple of months, for another few cameras and a periodic check-over. A clean first install turned into a standing relationship: the surest sign the work was right.

Point at the problem. We’ll optimise it.

Start with a short, no-commitment diagnostic. We’ll look at what you’ve got, tell you what we’d change and what it would save — and if everything’s in great shape, we’ll tell you that too.
